What is Spinning with the Stars?

Heading into its fourth year, “Spinning With the Stars” is a fun and fabulous cirque style show along the lines of “Dancing With the Stars” – only with circus performances– and “Hali-famous” people.

The event will take place at the SPATZ THEATRE on Thursday, April 30th 2020. Proceeds will go to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. We are so pleased to have official endorsement from the organization and excited to once again be raising money for an organization close to our hearts. The Mental Health Foundation supports programs and services to Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addictions.

The Event

The evening consists of 10-12 aerial Theatre performances, intermission featuring a band or DJ, snacks, drinks, silent auction, awards ceremony, and finishing off with a DJ dance party for everyone to celebrate and mingle!

That's a lot of fun packed into one evening!

Who Has Participated?

Hali-Famous Stars include Halifax Councillor Lindell Smith, MMA Champion Chris Kelades, Cory Bowles and Leigh MacInnis from Trailer Park Boys, Melody Rose from C100, April Hubbard from Halifax Fringe and LEGacy Circus, The Anchor City Rollers (roller skating team), Alert the Medic (ECMA award winning band), HRM’s dancing cop Jordon Shepard, Ghettosocks (hip hop artist), and Liz Rigney from CTV. Our world-class performers will team up with their Hali-Famous Stars to amaze and entertain the audience with acrobatic feats and theatrics. Each team will present their act, and the crowd will choose their favorite.

Wait 'Til You See This Year's Line Up!

Our Audience

The event attracts members of the dance and fitness communities and the general public who enjoy extraordinary performances reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil. We draw an upper income audience, and feature both female and male participants in this theatrical sporting activity. Last year over 500 people contributed to make the magic happen! The event is fully accessible and family friendly.

We hope you'll join us!

Who We Are

“Spinning with the Stars” is produced by inesS® (Studio In Essence), a fitness centre specializing in classes and personal training in pilates and aerial circus in Halifax. Our studio offers body-positive, safe, creative and fun paths to physical wellness. We believe physical and mental wellness are connected, and through that we understand the importance of supporting mental health. SWTS joins a roster of successes produced by  inesS™, including three annual Atlantic Pole Fitness Championships 2011-2013, Halifax Theatrix, Theatrical Pole Competition 2017-2019, public performances in Nocturne and Halifax Fringe and a variety of private corporate shows. Our aerial circus performers have performed and competed across Canada and internationally.

Christy Sanford, Owner and Director of inesSTM says, “After competing for years, I wanted to find a greater purpose behind all the energy I put towards pole. I thought there might be a way to combine performance with fundraising for a great cause. My personal mental health thrives off the passion I have for aerial acrobatics. I believe that once someone finds something they love to do, their joie de vie will soon follow suit.”

Christy’s thoughts are echoed by Anthony Robbins, author, entrepreneur, philanthropist and life coach. Anthony once said, “The higher your energy level, the more efficient your body. The more efficient your body, the better you feel and the more you will use your talent to produce outstanding results.”

Spinning With the Stars 2019 was a huge success! Over 500 people joined us at the Spatz Theatre and together we raised $5000 + for Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia!

Well what can I say? My experience with spinning with the stars was incredible. From the moment I was asked to participate, I was excited about the event! Felt like I was part of their family for years. I encourage all who are asked or who may be thinking of participating...

TO DO IT! It is a great cause with even better people.

Jordan “Halifax Dancing Cop”

“I had a great time working with Christy and everyone at spinning with the stars. It was a great experience to expand my own comfort zone and be able to help and support such a great cause!”

Chris Kelades - MMA Fighter

“Spinning with the Stars was a really fun experience.  I was worried about not having the skill or strength, but Michelle, my awesome partner, invented a routine I could do and enjoy performing.  What a great learning experience!”
